evil spirits - the damned

Over forty years since their initial explosion across the fledgling London punk scene, and some ten years since the release of their last studio recordings, British punk legends The Damned are set to return in 2018 with both new material and an extensive UK tour!

Scheduled for release via the bands freshly-inked deal with Search And Destroy and Spinefarm Records, the forthcoming 'Evil Spirits' album is the result of a frantic, high-energy burst of creativity at Atomic Sound studios in Brooklyn in October of 2016.

Recorded by famed producer Tony Visconti, whose list of past working-relationships reads like a who's who of popular music (David Bowie, T Rex, Morrissey, U2, The Stranglers, Iggy Pop and Thin Lizzy to name but a few!), the band took full advantage of the studios classic Neve recording desk, valve gear and vintage instruments and microphones and played everything in the live room together. This gloriously old school approach kept the energy intact and allowed The Damned's true inventiveness to flow free.

On every level, Evil Spirits excels by the highest standards set by rock's all-time greats. Armed with this late-career classic, The Damned can now look to the future, and rightfully claim the respect they've always deserved.

"In the early days," reflects an unapologetic David Vanian, "so much of the focus was on our craziness as people, and not enough was said about the fabulous music we were creating. We were termed 'punk', but that became a niche, where it only did certain things. We always believed in it being more open-minded and variable, and that's what we've tried to maintain over the years. "Our band has always predominantly gone forwards, and we think this album shows we're a relevant band NOW, and what we're capable of."

From The Damned, makers of some of the most exciting and influential music of the last fifty years, these are no idle claims. Here's dreaming of a better world.
