All About Women Satellite - UNE

In its fifth year, All About Women is one of Sydney Opera House’s flagship festivals and occurs as a prelude to International Women’s Day on March 8. The satellite sessions at the University of New England on Sunday, 5 March 2017 will focus on ideas that matter to women today.

The Zonta Club of Armidale Inc is bringing the satellite broadcast to you locally, and proceeds from your registration fee will support Zonta International projects which benefit the health, education and safety of women and girls.

Sessions (Registration from 9.30 am)

10.30    Women and Media-Geena Davis

Sharing her insight into Hollywood and the global film industry, Geena will discuss how far we still need to travel before girls can see the variety of women they want to become in the films they watch, the shows they stream and the media they absorb every day.

11.35    Why are you not a feminist? Backstage Q&A with Jessa Crispin, exploring the ideas in her latest book.

12.00    Nasty Women Panel- Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Van Badham and Lindy West, exploring the labels that are deployed to try to put women in their place. But what happens when women stop being afraid, and ‘nasty woman’ becomes a badge of honour?

Cost:  $20 registration (Please bring your ticket to the event.)  Purchase tickets. Tea and coffee will be available for a gold coin donation.  Please consider bringing your own cup.
